1. WHEN DID YOU DECIDE YOU WANTED TO BECOME A TECH CONSULTANT AND INSPIRATION TO WOMEN WORLDWIDE?
I wanted to go into tech consulting when i was in high school. I loved my I.T classes, and was always so amazed at how the entire world is connected via the internet.
2. TELL US MORE ABOUT EXACTLY WHAT YOU DO?
The really cool thing about tech consulting is that you can work in various roles within multiple industries. I am technically a business analyst - so i work with clients to identify how they want to marry their business needs with I.T related solutions. This includes everything from requirements gathering, blue printing / designing the system , assisting the developers in making the systems and then testing the product to make sure it meets the business needs. Another cool role my job has allowed me to experience is program financial management - which is managing an entire programs multi million dollar asset portfolio. Keeping track of all expenditure , changes in scope of the project , architectural decisions , I.T software / hardware procurement, stakeholder management, this list goes on !
3. WHO IS YOUR INSPIRATION AND WHY?
My inspiration is my mum. She’s progressed far within her I.T career - within roles such as Chief Information Officer and Chief Technology Officer. She now runs her own I.T consulting business. If i could be half as successful as her in my career, i’d be a happy woman !
4. WHERE DO YOU SEE YOURSELF IN 5 YEARS?
In 5 years professionally, i hope to see myself leading large digital transformation projects end to end. And in 5 years personally, I hope to be married and moved out with my partner. And hopefully be blessed to have some children.
5.WHAT ADVICE WOULD YOU GIVE TO YOUNG GIRLS AND WOMEN WHO ARE ASPIRING TO BECOME A SUCCESSFUL WOMAN LIKE YOU, BUT ARE TOO AFRAID TO TRY?
Looking back at my journey i think it’s extremely important to get work experience whilst you’re studying at uni. Try get into internship work if possible - this will really help boost your confidence , communication , and other various skills. It also helps when it comes to applying for graduate positions. Always ask questions (there is no such thing as a dumb questions), be open to learning new things (even if you think you won’t like it), know you have what it takes (self love is always a must) and just do it! Also make sure to have a solid resume and LinkedIn profile set up. These are the two forms of written communication where you really need to sell yourself - so don’t be afraid to really show off what you know/work you’ve done. Finally, if you can, try get a mentor. You can reach out to anyone on LinkedIn and ask if they’d be happy to mentor you. Or even any staff member at your University. You can set calls with them and ask them all the questions you have or have your doubts cleared. This will really help you in feeling confident and comfortable when it comes to your graduate interviews / any interviews, and increase your chances of getting your dream position!
